The Stand for Bangladesh has expressed concern over US sanctions and the future of UN peacekeeping missions around the world

The United Kingdom-based human rights group Stand for Bangladesh has expressed concern over the recent US sanctions against Bangladesh's elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and its seven officers and a letter from 12 international human rights organizations demanding to ban RAB in UN peacekeeping missions. The 'Stand for Bangladesh' organized a discussion meeting on behalf of the UK expatriates against disappearances, extrajudicial killings and human rights violations by the Bangladesh government and law enforcement agencies.

Barrister Abu Bakar Mollah, International Lawyer and Political Analyst spoke as the Chief Guest at the event presided over by Mohammad Mazharul Islam Bhayan, Chairman of the organization and conducted by Secretary Md. Toriqul Islam.

In his speech, the chief guest Barrister Abu Bakar Molla, said that the present Awami League government had consolidated its power by using law and order forces in various ways while it was in power. They and their administration have started lobbying to manage the international arena in protest of different international circles. Now I think it will be an obstacle for democracy. The hard work of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami (BJI) and opposition for the restoration of democracy are appreciated in the world. Finally, we want to say that we will continue to establish our democracy for our better Bangladesh. May God help us.

Mohammad Mazharul Islam Bhayan, chairman of Stand for Bangladesh and a former student leader, said that various international human rights organizations have repeatedly called for the rule of law in the country and other cases, attacks, disappearances, and killings the current Government has not heeded them. The international community has been shocked by the undemocratic behaviour of the Bangladesh government in the run-up to the by-elections. Moreover, given the extent to which the Awami League and the law enforcement agencies in Bangladesh have cracked down on the opposition in the last decade. The international community, including the USA and UN, were bound to provide the sanction against the Government, their officials and its law enforcement agencies. I want to clear from this program; please act for the people of Bangladesh. Also, return these missing people currently, including Barrister Ahmed Bin Quasem (Arman), Brigadier Salman Al Azmi and more who have been missing for a long time. Please work for the people of Bangladesh and the democracy. Bring peace to every sector for the people of Bangladesh.

Md. Tariqul Islam, Secretary of Stand for Bangladesh, said that the people of Bangladesh should be given back their right to vote. If RAB had not been used as a party administration, Bangladesh would not be in a quandary today. As long as the Awami League exists, party affiliation will continue, and the image of Bangladesh will continue to be tarnished, so we cannot allow this to happen. For him, there is no alternative but to remove Sheikh Hasina's Government from power through neutral elections.

Media Secretary of Stand for Bangladesh Md.  Aminul Islam Mukul, Vice Chairman Md. Ashraful Islam Ferdous, Md Abdur Rahman, Organizing Secretary Masudul Hasan, Cultural Secretary Raihan Chowdhury, Vice President of Fight for Rights International Karim Mia, Secretary Burhan Uddin Chowdhury, Joint Secretary Md. Aminul Islam Safar, Ali Ahmed, Md. Zakirul Islam, Tareq Khan, Md. Safiqul Islam Shafi, Md. Jahangir Ahmed, Mohammad Fantu, Shahjalal Chowdhury, Iqbal Hossain, Md. Alam Ahmed, Majeda Akter, Abdul Mukit Rajib and others were present.
