Protest meeting held in London against the death sentence of Assistant Secretary-General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, ATM Azharul Islam and the deteriorating law and order situation in the country.

Mr ATM Azharul Islam, Assistant Secretary-General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, was sentenced to death by a Supreme Court majority judgment in a false case filed by the government.

In protest of the verdict, on Sunday 8th November 2019, London-based expatriate Bangladeshi organization 'Stand for Bangladesh' organized a protest meeting on behalf of the expatriate Bangladeshis at Altab Ali Park, in East London.

Expressing deep concern, the chairman of the Stand for Bangladesh said the court could not confirm the legacy fair trial. Where there is a prosecution and judicial misconduct, the court cannot make such a disputed judgment to make happy a group. He complained that the government was forcing judges to vacate the leadership of the country and to single-handedly rule in justice and injustice that would last forever.

The chairman of the organization, Mohammad Mazharul Islam Bhuiyan, presided over the function and the chief guest was at the protest rally, Vice Chairman of Universal Voice for Justice Md. Tariqul Islam. The chief guest said that through the intervention of the government on the judiciary of Bangladesh, they are plotting to destroy the country by killing all political leaders who influence justice.

Joint Secretary for Peach for Bangladesh Md. Mohin Khan addressed a special guest in the presence of local and foreign journalists including various TV channels in Bangladesh. He said all Jamaat-Shibir and opposition leaders, including Delwar Hossain Sayedee, Azharul Islam, Abdus Subhan Khan, should be released.

Among others, former student leaders Abdullah Al Munim, Sayyed Jamal Ahmed, Abu Taher Mohammad Bahar, Abdullah Al Mamun, Belal Hossain Mollah, Shoaibur Rahman, Saifur Rahman Parvez, Mohammad Hossain, Mohammad Zabin, Mohammad Zain, Mohammad Zaheb, and others. Jamaat leader Md. Bashir Ahmed is the head.
