An online protest rally was held in London condemning the arrest of Shibir leaders and activists in Dhaka, Bangladesh
The UK based human rights
organization Stand for Bangladesh has recently condemned and protested the
unjust arrest of 05 leaders and activists of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir
(BICS) from a mess (student accommodation) in the capital Dhaka on 09 December
2021.
Stand for Bangladesh Chairman Mohammad Mazharul Islam Bhayan presided over the programme, and Md Toriqul Islam
conducted this online meeting. Many activists provided the speech in this meeting, including Vice President Karim Mia, Media Secretary Md. Aminul Islam, Cultural Secretary Raihan Chowdhury, ERI Secretary-General Nowshin Mostari Mia Shaheb, Md. Istiaq Hossain, Md. Alam Ahmed, Ali, Md. Panto, Abdus Samad Khan, Md. Shahjalal Chowdhury, Md Asadul, Md Hasan, Md Abu Taher, Md. Ryan Uddin, Md Ashraful Quddus, Abdul Baki and Chowdhury Tahmina Rahman, among others.
In the meeting, I,
Mohammad Mazharul Islam Bhayan, Chairman of Stand for Bangladesh, said that the
Bangladesh Government had failed to deal with Chhatra Shibir ideologically. The
Bangladesh Government is trying to cover up their misdeeds including, MPs, ministers,
leaders, activists and their recent issues; the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) is
trying to frame the innocent Shibir leaders and activists in various ways. The
RAB has acted in an unethical and irresponsible manner to tarnish the image of
Chhatra Shibir and destroy the future of the meritorious students. This
irresponsible behaviour of the RAB towards the innocent meritorious students in
a planned manner is not acceptable in any way. The student life of many has
been threatened many times in the past due to this inhuman irresponsibility of
the police and the RAB, which cannot be accepted in any way. We want to make it
clear that Chhatra Shibir is an ideal organization. We call for the immediate
cessation of hostilities, and at the same time, we strongly condemn and protest
against this heinous crime on behalf of the Stand for Bangladesh.
On occasion, Md.
Tariqul Islam, Secretary of Stand for Bangladesh, said that the illegal Awami
League government wants to make the country a militant state by arresting my
brother Abdullah Al Mahmoud and other Shibir leaders to consolidate their
power. But their hopes will never be fulfilled. He called for their immediate
release.
