Human chain in London demanding the release of Jamaat-e-Islami leader and Ex-MP Shahjahan Chowdhury
Human chain in London demanding the release of Jamaat-e-Islami leader and Ex-MP Shahjahan Chowdhury
On 16 December 2021, on behalf
of Stand for Bangladesh at Altab Ali Park in East London, we demanded
unconditional release of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Chittagong Metropolitan Nayeeb-e-Ameer,
Central Shura Member former MP Shahjahan Chowdhury, who was unjustly
arrested in Bangladesh on 15 May 2021.
I, Mohammad Mazharul Islam Bhayan,
as a Chairman of Stand for Bangladesh, conducted this Human Chain Program along
with human rights activists. I said that the government was trying to inflict
revenge on Jamaat-e-Islami in Bangladesh by seeking revenge. Bangladesh
government has killed the central leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami in the name of war
crimes to be pleased a section of the people. We want to make it clear through
today's human chain that Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir and Bangladesh
Jamaat-e-Islami believe in the independence and sovereignty of the country. At
the same time, on behalf of the Stand for Bangladesh, we strongly condemn and
protest against this heinous crime and call for the restoration of peace and
order in the country by making arrangements to release all political prisoners.
International Lawyer,
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami UK and Europe Spokesperson Barrister Abu Baker Molla
spoke as the chief guest in the human chain presided over by Sirajul Islam
Shaheen, former president of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Sylhet Metropolitan.
Prominent lawyer and former student leader Barrister Badre Alam Didar, former
student leader solicitor Munshad Ahmed Chowdhury and former student leader of
Dhaka University Belal Rashid Chowdhury spoke as guests.
On occasion, Barrister Abu
Bakor Molla, the chief guest, said, "I would like to remind the Government
of Bangladesh that there are three principles of independence. If this is the
goal of freedom, the spirit of the liberation war, then why are the opposition
leaders and Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir (BICS), including Jamaat-e-Islami
(BJI), being kept in jail today? I want to remind the government again that wind
speed does not always move in one direction. You must have noticed that the
soil under your feet is shifting. Your visa is being cancelled! Sanctions are
being issued against you! See the signs and understand. The Jamaat-e-Islami,
which has been working in Bangladesh for a long time for democracy and
protection of human rights, is not the enemy of this country. The leaders of
Jamaat-e-Islami have been imprisoned for building this country. Former Jamaat
MP Shahjahan Chowdhury, an undisputed leader of the people of the Chittagong
area, has been detained since 15 May 2021 and a victim of persecution. Currently,
he is seriously ill and needs proper treatment. If there is no deception, release
an old reputed leader like Shahjahan Chowdhury.
Md Toriqul Islam, Secretary-General of Stand for Bangladesh, said that the illegal Awami League government wants to make the country a militant state by arresting my brother Abdullah Al Mahmud and other Shibir leaders to consolidate their power. But their hopes will never be fulfilled. He called for their immediate release.
Vice President of the
organization Khairul Islam, Cultural Secretary Raihan Chowdhury, Media
Secretary Md Aminul Islam, Publicity Secretary Md. Iqbal Hossain, Former
Student Leader Saifur Rahman Parvez, Former Student Leader Mahin Khan, Former
Jamaat Activist Ahmed Ali, UVHR’s Sahan Bin Nijam and NEBACA London
Metropolitan Secretary Md. Aminul Islam Sofor and more.
